Bullthistle Farm's
Jacob Sheep

Originating nearly 5000 years ago in Syria, the Jacob Sheep came to America from England.  Paintings from the 1700's show these sheep being used to mow the parks around the large country estates.
Carriers of the polycerate gene, each sheep is capable of having 2, 4 or 6 horns.  Both rams and ewes are horned, and their spotted fleece is a delight to work with.  Hand spinners like the open weave of this medium fine wool, and the natural colors are wonderful for spinning and weaving.

Thrifty to raise, these curious and friendly animals are ideal for both small scale and large breeders.  The vast majority of Jacob shepherds are women, speaking to their ease in handling as well as gentle natures.
Beautiful animals with unusual horns, they have a greater resistance to disease and parasites than many "modern" breeds and are easy lambers.  It is rare to experience mis-mothering and rejected lambs.  They are lean and tasty with a minimum of carcass loss.  Fleece, pelts and horns are an additional by-product of this breed.

Named for Jacob, the Hebrew patriarch, they are believed to be descended from his original biblical flock.
